MTN Uganda subscribers are in for an early Christmas this year by the looks of things. The big yellow has reduced sending rate for tiered amounts between a modest UGX 500 and UGX 45,000. MTN has reduced the rates from by between 9% and 64% for the smaller amounts. MTN Uganda’s General Manager for Financial Services Phrase Lubega announced this new offering at a press conference at the MTN Service Centre Towers, Forest Mall, Lugogo.

But don’t celebrate yet. The reduced charges only apply to registered MTN mobile money subscribers sending money to other registered customers. And mark the words, ‘sending’. Withdrawal charges remain the same as do other established rates. Such promo coupled with MoKash work in tandem to provide financial inclusion for MTN’s subscribers

Quotable: “To be able to accelerate the financial inclusion that mobile money is at the fore front of supporting, affordability is key. This is why we have taken a decision to reduce the mobile money rates for sending money in the transaction ranges that the majority of our customers transact. We are making it more affordable for the customer to send money using MTN Mobile Money.” ~ Wim Vanhelleputte, MTN Uganda Chief Executive Officer
