The lockdown in major cities around the world has forced a good number of people to binge-watch an unusual amount of content on streaming platforms — with Netflix being the most visited streaming platform.

Netflix, however, has now decided to put a bunch of its content on the popular video-sharing platform, YouTube, for free. This move will give teachers, students, and parents access to Netflix content, for free, during the lockdown period.

This is understandable because Netflix normally allows teachers to stream documentaries in classrooms, but since schools around the globe are closed, students can view assigned documentaries online for free, whether or not they have a Netflix account. According to Netflix in a press release;

  • 13th (Film): This is a documentary about the mass incarceration of black Americans in the US. Laid out by Ava DuVernay, it contains archival footage and testimony from activists, politicians, historians, and formerly incarcerated women and men.Abstract (Series – Season 1): This documentary takes you into the art, science, and philosophy of design. Knock Down the House: A story of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Amy Vilela, Cori Bush, Paula Jean, young female Democratic congresswomen who forced their way into the House of Representatives in the US.Our Planet: Narrated by Sir David Attenborough, it is a documentary exploring the unique and precious wonders of our natural world.The White Helmets: It is a Netflix documentary that follows three volunteer rescue workers, in Syria, as they put everything on the line to save civilians affected by the war.

Although these documentaries are currently available in English, Netflix has promised to make subtitles in more than a dozen languages available in the coming weeks.
