New Mouse From Microsoft Is 20 Percent Recycled Ocean Plastic

If you thought Windows 11 was the only thing in store for you, you thought wrong. Microsoft has a shell made of 20% recycled ocean plastic and 100% recyclable packaging.

The new mouse announced is focused on recycling and sustainability.Microsoft plans to pursue the zero-waste goal and end use of plastics by 2025.Microsoft teamed up with SABIC to create the ocean mouse.

Zero wastage

At the moment, the mouse is only 20% recycled plastic, but Microsoft plans to fully achieve its goal of zero wastage by 2025. There are no fancy scroll controls or high-precision DPI in the new mouse.

The plastic shell is made of resin – the plastic waste normally found and recovered in waterways and oceans. It is then turned into pellets and blended with additional material to make up the shell.

The packaging comes in a box made of wood and sugarcane fibers, all recyclable.

Exchange your old for new

To kickstart off the journey towards sustainability, Microsoft has put a word out that there will be a free mail-in program that allows users to send their old mouse for recycling.

Microsoft collaborated with SABIC Saudi Basic Industries Corporation for this cause. The mouse is already available for preorder and will be retailing for $24.99, but just as all Surface hardware that were announced, it will be available as of October 5.

Well, it seems the price didn’t sit well with some users, according to this tweet.

Some of the notable features of the mouse include the Swift Pair connection and the Bluetooth Low energy wireless. The mouse promises a prolonged battery life with just one AA battery for up to one year. Users can also customize the buttons using the Mouse and Keyboard software.
