New Windows 10 Feature Automatically Frees Up Space And Cleans Unwanted Files

Low disk space is an ancient problem in Windows that has bothered users since the first version of the system was released. There are currently a few features that can help you get rid of unwanted files in order to gain some space, but Microsoft will introduce even more options in the future.

The latest Windows 10 Preview build 15014 includes a new feature for cleaning unwanted files in Windows 10. When this feature is turned on, Windows will automatically delete unwanted files so you don’t have to bother doing it. By unwanted files, Microsoft means recycle bin content older than 30 days and some older temporary files.

This option is turned off by default, but you can turn it on anytime by going to Settings > System > Storage Settings. On this settings page, you can also choose what you want to be cleaned.

For now, the new storage cleaning option is available to Windows Insiders running at least build 15014 for now. However, Microsoft will introduce it to the general public along with the Creators Update this April.

Since this is the very first version of the feature, we’re not sure how it performs right now. But Microsoft will surely polish it even more for the public release to make sure it doesn’t remove something it shouldn’t.
