Office 2016 update solves MS Excel crashes and more

The VSTO fix

KB4484392 addresses a crash problem that impacted users of Visual Studio Tools for Office (VSTO).

Browse the web from multiple devices with increased security protocols.

Access content across the globe at the highest speed rate.

Connect to thousands of servers for persistent seamless browsing.

Microsoft describes the problem as follows:

WMF pasting

Update KB4484392 includes a printer dots per inch (DPI) improvement. It now lets you use DPI when you’re pasting WMF or Enhanced Metafile (EMF) to enhance text spacing.

  • You have a VSTO Add-in that calls ApplicationFactory.GetVstoObject.
  • You add a shape to a workbook and save the workbook as .zip format.
  • You add a noSelect property through setting <a:spLocks noSelect=”1″ /> in a drawing xml file.
  • You load the add-in in Excel, and then open the workbook.

In this situation, Excel crashes.

The added DPI support is optional, even though it’s enabled by default. To disable it, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice16.0Common. Then, assign 0 to the EnableMetafileReferenceDevice registry key.

Visio files with EMF graphics

If you cropped EMF graphics to fit on a Visio file, you’d get blurry printouts. This issue is no more with the update Office 2016 just received. However, the fix is optional in the sense that you can disable it.

Cropped EMF shapes

A bug would crop the sides, bottom, or top of copy-pasted EMF shapes.

PowerPoint 2016 issues

If you copied formatted text from MS Excel to PowerPoint, you’d lose the formatting. This bug is no more.

Also fixed is an issue that caused PowerPoint 2016 to crash. The problem occurred if, when working with the Segmented Process SmartArt, the user pushed backspace multiple times to remove the node.
