We know that the tech world moves fast. How fast you ask? Well, most high-profile smartphone makers often release a new version of the devices they make each year.
However, there are some OEMs that do things differently by releasing multiple devices in a given line of phones in a year. Xiaomi is the first company that comes to mind in this regard but Oppo is fast adopting the same.
Back in March of this year, we saw Oppo unveil the Reno3 smartphone. This device packed a 4025mAh battery, a Helio P90 chipset coupled with 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB internal storage.

Fast forward to August 2020 and already, Oppo was unveiling its sequel, the Oppo Reno4. Reno4 went on sale in various markets across the globe including the Phillipines and last week, we saw the device getting officially unveiled in the Kenyan market.
What Does the Reno4 Offer?
Well, having been launched barely 6 months after its predecessor, it is understandable that the Reno4 is awfully similar to the Reno3, at least spec-wise.
Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset, coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
It sports a 6.4-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a pill-shaped cutout that houses the dual selfie camera at the top-left corner of the display.
These are a 32MP main camera and a 2MP depth sensor for killer portrait selfie shots. The screen is surrounded with pretty slim bezels, classic for any 2020 (upper) mid-range device.
At the back, the Reno4 sports 4 cameras. These include a 48MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, a 2MP mono camera and a 2MP macro lens.
Overall, the device has a premium look and feel that exudes class, just like its predecessor.
The Reno4 runs Android 10 out-of-the-box with Oppo’s ColorOS 7.2 on top. It is also set to get an update to Android 11 pretty soon.
Camera
See, since the original Reno 10X Zoom, the Reno line of smartphones have been known for its camera prowess and this is not any different in this release. One of the highlight features of the Reno3 device was the Ultra-steady mode for video. The same has been brought over to the Reno4
Additionally, the Reno4 has an AI Color portrait mode. This allows the device to have the main subject in full color while having the background blurred in black and white. All this is done in real time preview.
Also, there’s an option for up to 960fps slow-motion video.
Price and Availability
The device is available in either Galactic Blue, or Space Black. These are both matte plastic finishes.
The Oppo Reno4 has recently been unveiled in Kenya and should be available in local stores, Safaricom Shops and Jumia starting at KES 39,999 ($400).
