Earlier today, I experienced a peculiar problem while trying to print a document. When I attempted to print the document, the HP printer connected to my Windows 10 laptop printed a few pages without any issues. After printing four or five pages, a paper got jammed in the printer, and I got the error for the same on the Windows 10 desktop.

To fix the error and the problem, I manually removed the jammed paper from the printer and then resumed the print. Strangely enough, Windows 10 and the printer was displaying the same paper jammed in the printer error. I tried printing a different document, but got the same error.

If Windows 10 is displaying the paper jam error even when the paper is not in the printer or even after removing the jammed paper out of the printer, you can try out the following solutions to fix the error.

Note that you can use these troubleshooting tips for any brand printer.

Solution 1 of 2

Turn off and turn on the printer

Before doing anything else, turn off the printer for a minute and then turn on the printer.

Method 2 of 2

Remove and add the printer in the Settings

This is the best way to fix the printer jam error that you see even after removing the jammed paper from the printer. This solution worked for me, and I hope it for you as well.

Step 1: Open the Windows 10 Settings app. Navigate to Devices > Printers & scanners page.

Step 2: In the Printers & Scanners section, you will see your printer’s name. Click on the printer’s name (to see hidden options) and then click the Remove device button to remove the printer.

When you get the confirmation message, click the Yes button to remove the printer.

Step 3: After removing the printer, you need to add it again. To do that, make sure that the printer is turned on and then click Add a printer or scanner option located on the same page (Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners).

Step 4: Windows 10 will search for all connected printers and list your printer’s name. Click on the printer’s entry and then click the Add device button to add/install the printer.

Try printing a document now. Windows 10 and your printer should now print the document without any error.
