Passcode is one of the most secured ways of keeping your device locked away from the prying eyes of intruders. It is based on the same technology concept used in iPhone and iPad. The passcode, by default, is a four-digit combination and can be increased to 10 digits at the max.

To Add a Passcode to Your Apple Watch, You Generally Have Two Opportunities:

The first opportunity is a one-time chance, and that is when you setup your Apple Watch for the first time.

The second opportunity is any time chance, which can be done by the following steps:

Step 1. Open Settings on Apple Watch.

Step 2. Scroll down and tap on passcode.

Step 3. Tap Change Passcode. Enter the old passcode.

Some Other Extra Features To Lock Apple Watch And Keep It Safe

You can lock your Apple Watch whenever you want by accessing the Control Center and activating the Apple Watch Lock Screen. However, if you are tired of this manual method and want to lock your Apple Watch automatically then follow these steps:

Step 1. Open Settings on your Apple Watch.

Step 2. Scroll down and tap on the passcode.

Step 3. In the Passcode section, locate Wrist Detection and slide the toggle switch towards the right to turn it on.

Step 4. Once the Wrist Detection has been turned on, it will automatically lock when the user is not wearing it.

Note: If you want to unlock your Apple Watch when you are not wearing it on your wrist, then you need to unlock it by entering the passcode manually. And if you have been the watch the entire day, then you do not need to enter the passcode again and again.

There is one more option to increase the security on your Apple Watch, and that is to Set a Six Digit Passcode instead of the default four-digits. To enable this, you need to access the Watch App on your iPhone and toggle off the option that is labelled as Simple Passcode.

Once you have set up a lock on your Apple Watch, it is easy to unlock it by simply inputting the code once.

There is another alternative method, and that is to unlock Apple Watch with iPhone. To be able to do this, follow these quick steps:

Step 1. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.

Step 2. Locate My Watch tab and tap on it.

Step 3. Now tap on passcode and select “Unlock with iPhone.”

Step 4. You can unlock your iPhone by the security options you have set up including Face ID, and this will also lock your Apple Watch.

What to Do When Your Apple Watch Doesn’t Unlock?

Sometimes, you might face an issue where you can’t unlock the Apple Watch probably because you have forgotten the passcode or did not set the feature to unlock Apple Watch with iPhone. In that case there is only thing you can do instead of staring at the Apple Watch lock screen and that is to reset it back to the factory settings. You can of course restore all your information and settings from a backup. Here are the steps that you need to follow if you cannot unlock the Apple Watch:

Step 1. Launch the Apple Watch app.

Step 2. Under My Watch, select General and then tap on the reset button.

Step 3. Select the option which states “Erase Apple Watch Content and Settings”.

Step 5. You can restore all the information backed up on the iCloud, and your Apple Watch will be just as before.
