Price: $249 or $399
Being one of the best Samsung watches currently on the market, this watch comes in two different designs and prices (Standard and Classic). Unlike the Watch 3, this model runs on the new Google Wear operating system. Now while this might cause limited functionality for users with non-Samsung devices, Samsung users can enjoy a wide array of features. Some of which include heart rate, blood oxygen, and body composition like BMI, body fat and so much more. All this information is synced to your Samsung Health app where you can share readings with your doctor online.
This device has an always-on display which allows you to thoroughly enjoy the array of Google apps and services on your wrist. For example, you can pay for your coffee, get directions, talk, text, play music on YouTube, and even speak to your Google Assistant. The only downside to this device is that the battery isn’t as strong. So if you’re very keen on battery life and you don’t have a Samsung device, you may want to explore other options. If not, this tops our list.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 3
Key Specification
- 8 GB storageTizen OS 5.543 hours of battery lifeLTE supportedWater-resistantIn-built GPSStress level detectorECG tracking
Price: $399
Released a year before the Galaxy Watch 4, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 is our top pick for style. With a round face shape and a rotating bezel, you can customize the face to fit your specific style from the 80,000 faces available to choose from.
The face might seem small but it comes with a miniature keyboard suitable for getting your texts across. You can track up to 40 activities including your running, cycling, swimming, and other sports. With the inbuilt GPS, you can track your preferred routes for walks. However, since the straps are leather, you might want to use a fitness tracker for more intense workouts.
You have access to an FDA-approved ECG monitor that provides you with actionable data during your sleep tracking. Unlike the Watch 4, the watch 3 has limited apps and storage space. You can save your playlists offline on this device but it might not be a lot seeing as it only has 8GB of storage. The battery life isn’t as strong as the active series as it only has up to 43 hours. However, when compared to the watch 4, it’s a bit better. So if you want a smartwatch to track light workouts, sleep cycle, and other basics, this is a good choice.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2
- 4 GB of storage60 hours of battery life Tizen OS Samsung PayIn-built GPSHeart rate monitor with notificationsSwimproofECG trackerOffline storage for music
Price: $298
While this might seem like an older model, the Watch Active 2 is still worth buying especially if you find it on sale. As an improvement to the watch active, it’s compatible with any smartphone device and comes with a lot of cool features. For example, you can track your heart rate and get notifications when there’s an unusual spike in your vitals. There’s also a sleep tracker that offers you valuable insights into your sleep patterns, cycle, and other activity metrics. It automatically tracks your workouts and there’s an in-built GPS to show you your usual routes.
The only downside to this watch is that it has very limited storage space for apps and songs. However, it makes up for this with the super-strong battery life and stylish design. So if you’re looking for a stylish watch suitable for everyday needs and light exercises, you should consider this. Especially if you’re looking for something affordable with strong battery life.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Active
- 45 hours of battery lifeSwimproofNo LTE option4GB storageTizen OSHeart rate monitor and notificationsFitness tracking and 6 exercise modes
Price: $59.99
The Samsung Galaxy watch active is a very simple fitness watch that automatically tracks 6 exercise modes and any additional 39 you’d want to track. It monitors your heart rate and sends notifications when there’s a spike or drop in your resting rate. When it first launched, it had a faster processor and simple software than its predecessors. However, when compared with the neer models listed above, it’s an average watch. Asides from being affordable, it has a very sporty look with apps that are very sport-centered. It has a strong battery life too. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have an option for mobile data. And so, you cannot use it untethered from your smartphone.
