Samsung S New Windows Mixed Reality Headset Lands November 6

Samsung has partnered with Microsoft to release the all-new HMD Odyssey, an immersive Windows Mixed Reality headset aimed at helping developers and OEMs build an experience that stitches real-world experience together with VR.

In a way, this is like AR meets VR along with added bells and whistles. Samsung claims to have put in the best available hardware to offer a premium VR experience.

Priced at $499, the Samsung HMD Odyssey comes with integrated AKG headphones and better visuals with dual 3.5-inch AMOLED displays each set at a resolution of 1440 x 1600. Its virtual environment is very vivid and its 110-degree field of view will help achieve an immersive experience whilst viewing 360-degree videos.

The Samsung HMD Odyssey looks to be ergonomically designed with padding around the head and with an accurate fit. Dimension wise, the headset is sized at 202mm x 131.5mm x 111m and is pretty bulky at 652 grams. That apart, the Samsung HMD Odyssey features two cameras in front and six degrees of freedom. Other sensors include IPD, built-in microphone and setting dials.

Samsung is also touting an easy to set up, unlike other head-mounted VR headsets. All one needs to do is connect the headset to their PC and they are good to go. The Samsung HMD Odyssey will be available later this year in US, China, Korea, Brazil and Hong Kong. Preorders have already begun and you can register here or get the headset from Microsoft’s Store.
