Microsoft has recently issued a good deal of security updates for most of its products, such as Microsoft Office products and Internet Explorer. Now we’re talking about another update that concerns FAT 32. More details below.

As you can see in the above screenshot for yourself, as part of the recent Microsoft Security Bulletin MS14-063, which has been categorized as Important, Microsoft has brought a fix for a vulnerability found in the FAT32 disk partition driver that could allow elevation of privilege. The security update fixes the vulnerability by changing how memory is allocated when a specific function is called. Not too many other details were disclosed about this minor security update, but if you have been affected or you think you could be at risk, then don’t waste anymore time and perform the latest update via Windows Update.

This security update resolves a privately reported vulnerability in Microsoft Windows. An elevation of privilege vulnerability exists in the way the Windows FASTFAT system driver interacts with FAT32 disk partitions. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges. This security update is rated Important for all supported editions of Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008.
